The restaurant is nicely situated on the outskirts of the old town of Truro. It was not busy when we went but the atmosphere was pleasant and the service helpful.

The food was not exceptional. The starter of kedgeree was very good but the duck for the main course was a little tough and the cheesecake was more like creme brulee. Overall, the experience was pleasant but no exceptional which we had been led to believe by reviews.

Intimate restaurant with a nice ambiance. Food was nice and presented well but taste wasn’t stand out. Had the steak which was a small portion and wanted this rare but... read more seemed more medium. A pleasant evening however overall.

Booked Tabbs months before our visit to make sure we got a spot. Very responsive on emails and organisation. Interior design nicer than online pics show, felt very smart and... read more welcoming. Nigel's cooking was as bang on as other reviewers have said - ray wing with duck sauce was a thing of beauty and the standout dish. Portions are very generous (we couldn't finish the lovely paprika coated potatoes) and the homemade bread was superb. Not sure the dessert (panna cotta) quite reached the heights of the fish cookery but that is a minor point. Pricing is very reasonable indeed for the quality and quantity of food. We had a great time and look forward to coming back.

Went as a group of four for two big birthdays. The restaurant was busy despite it being a weekday, which is a testament to the food. Service is unobtrusive and... read more fast. Menu choices are great, but the food really does speak for itself. I do think it could be changed up a little more (many choices were the same as when I went pre-covid) but what they serve is exceptional and I’d recommend it to anyone. A bit on the pricey side for Truro but worth it for a special occasion.

One of the best restaurants in Cornwall - The hidden Gem in Truro, Cornwall !!! we have lived in Truro for 18 months and have been meaning to try this superb restaurant and we are so glad we... read more did. From the minute we walked in, it was faultless, the greeting was welcoming and very informative on both the food and wine. Then came the food presented beautifully and tasted even better than it looked ( we eat with our eyes). We had the set menu because it had everything we wanted and at £36 for 3 courses it was Michelin star food and a great price. It had a great wine list again quality at a good price we chose a Spanish Albariño and at just £42 it was one of the best we have had in all our years visiting Spain. We have eaten at all the big named restaurants old and new in Cornwall and this is one if not the best. We will be going back very soon for dinner and have already booked the Sunday lunch which I have been told is an experience in its self.

The combination is a perfect and incredibly relaxed lunch. Nigel came out at the end of service and it was great to talk to the chef. A Culinary Oasis in a desert of mediocrity in the Truro area - I found it difficult to recommend anywhere for a fine dining experience in West Cornwall until we visited Tabb’s on Thursday 14th September. Small menu (always a good sign) with... read more just 5 or 6 starters, mains and desserts, I was excited by the menu representing local, seasonal produce. Faultless service, with a complimentary amuse bouche of mushroom soup with garlic oil and lovely homemade bread. The starters of bream on black pasta with artichoke cream was outstanding, whilst my other half really enjoyed a lightly spiced Thai soup. Beef short rib and duck main courses were cooked to perfection and had outstanding sides including pig cheeks with chick peas. Dessert of chocolate marquis with black treacle ice cream and salted caramel sauce was one if the best desserts we have ever had-so much so we licked the plates! Decent wine list at reasonable prices and complimentary iced tap water. This place is an absolute gem and we will be returning on a regular basis.

A mid evening arrival in Truro and a walk down from the Station to our hotel and we stumbled across this unassuming restaurant and looked at the menu and decided... read more to give it a go. what with being tired after a long journey.
What an unexpected delight this turned out to be. The restaurant from the outside is almost un-noticeable. Inside it's not too large. The welcome was sincere as we hadn't booked. The menu was well crafted. I had the Red Gurnard which was superb. There was a great choice of starter, and a wonderful tempting list of deserts both of which I resisted. We were a small teacup of mushroom and garlic soup with our bread which served well as an appetiser rather than a starter.
A decent wine list to tempt and tease every diner and the table was refreshed with tap water as required without asking. The service was unobtrusive, If there was music, I never noticed it, and all in all a memorable mean on a mid winters evening after a long journey. Highly recommended by myself and my friends, and Tabb's will be re-visited again when we come back to Cornwall again.

Innovative combinations on the plate. A Ray dish was outstanding and don't forget the puddings. Interesting wine list.
Tabb's standards are a beacon in a culinary landscape that can often disappoint.

OK, hands up; I’ll admit it. Mrs Reviewer and I do like really good food. And that is exactly what Tabbs gave us on our visit.
The dishes were... read more all thoughtful, but without trying to be too “clever”. This was cooking focussed on what is great to eat, rather than just looks pretty or shows off about some weird culinary process that comes with a health and safety warning saying you shouldn’t try it at home. Don’t get me wrong. It did look great on the plate, and considerable cooking skill had gone into preparing the dishes. But this was food that was great to eat.
And Tabb’s was a nice place to be for dinner. Friendly, efficient but relaxed service works for me every time.
Any regrets? Only that Truro is a long way from home, and I am not sure when I will get a chance to eat at Tabb’s again.

After originally being told they were full until mid August, we got a table on a cancellation. However, they seem to be limiting the number of tables they serve each... read more evening as there was only the two of us at one side of the restaurant and one other couple right over the other side. This resulted in a complete lack of atmosphere. The inside of the restaurant is much nicer than it looks from the outside.
The food was beautifully presented, with a delicious Amuse Bouche of mushroom soup. The portions weren’t huge but ample for us and was all cooked perfectly. Service was efficient.
Unfortunately going out for dinner is as much about the experience for us as the food so we wouldn’t return until they are fully open.

Outstanding - Outstanding meal. Superb range of textures and flavours, and unique combinations of quality ingredients. I started with bream and black pasta - beautifully fresh and flavoursome. Mains was a perfectly... read more cooked duck breast fillet on a bed of creamy celeriac with a pot of cassoulet (nice texture, not mush!). Veg side was a real treat - courgette slices deep fried in an exceptionally light batter and served piping hot, and really tasty new potatoes with a paprika coating. For dessert the baked cheesecake had a creme brulee type caramel cover and was served with apple sorbet and an orange sauce - definitely never come across that combination before and it worked a treat. All in all best restaurant I've eaten at in Cornwall.

After seeing so many good reviews, we were delighted they could fit us in for dinner.
Arrived and wasn’t busy ( only 1 other couple in the restaurant)... read more which took us by surprise because they squeezed us in on a cancellation, before hand had no tables.
We both got starters and mains expecting a variety of flavours and interesting parts to the dishes.
Starters were ok, nothing to rave about then the veggie main I received was incredibly expensive for what it was…. A quarter of a pepper with small amount of tofu and onions, which was labelled as stuffed pepper - making me expect a whole pepper stuffed.
On a whole, not much atmosphere, service was average, and food was expensive for what it was.
Wouldn’t go back! Sorry.
